Clovis Lai

I am a traveler on a journey of life, love & communication.

I have a keen interest in people, ideas and books, as I believe that such knowledge will lead to an understanding of life. I am married and have two adult children.

I have been an entrepreneur and financial advisor in my many business and career ventures. I constantly challenge myself to learn by setting up new business ventures.

After college in the UK in 1981, I set up a company supplying the Brunei government and companies with office equipment, furniture and office supplies. I was appointed Brunei area representative for Diners Club International and also served as procurement officer for Elf Aquitaine. After 8 years, I moved to Canada and was a financial planner in Ottawa & Vancouver Island for Investors Group, the premier financial planning & investment company. This was followed by experiences at Canada Trust, Canada’s oldest & largest trust company.

In 1996 I returned to Brunei and set up a company to provide data for asset management of oil & gas facilities. We create computerized 3D models from survey data for onshore & offshore projects for Brunei Shell Petroleum.

I have a passion for communication as I believe it enriches lives. Thus I helped established the first Toastmasters Club in Brunei, The Brunei Speakers’ Club in 1999 and served as its Charter President. I also helped charter the HSBC TMC and Otters TMC.  I have served as a Toastmasters Area Governor responsible for clubs in Brunei & Malaysia.

Over the last 20 years I have conducted seminars in communication & leadership, tourism, entrepreneurship, sales & marketing and financial planning. I have been helping Linda in Core Value Training since 2005 and have been travelling around Asia as a course instructor.

In the end, I truly love people and believe that I can best serve others through helping them understand themselves better through programs such as Core Value Training.
